Eva Mendes knows she has to share her long-time partner Ryan Gosling’s “Kenergy” with everyone. Last week, the 49-year-old actress and mother of two expressed her love for Gosling by posting a video on her Instagram. The clip featured the 43-year-old actor and music producer Mark Ronson working on a new version of the hit song “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie.
Gosling, who plays Ken in the movie, sat at a piano playing while the camera showed the studio and Ronson at the mixing board. The words “I’m Just Ken / Merry Kristmas Barbie” appeared on the screen as they discussed the song. Mendes, in her caption, thanked Mark Ronson for getting her man to make more music, expressing her love and mentioning that Dead Man’s Bones is her favorite band.
Some comments jokingly took offense to Mendes calling Gosling “my man.” One commenter suggested she say “our man,” and Mendes playfully responded, agreeing with the suggestion. This wasn’t the first time Mendes supported Gosling in his role as Ken in Barbie. She has consistently cheered him on, reposting comments from the movie’s director and even wearing a T-shirt with his face.
In an interview at the movie’s premiere in July, Gosling expressed how much Mendes’ support meant to him. The couple, together since 2011, has never married but shares two children. Barbie became the highest-grossing film of 2023, earning over $1.44 billion worldwide after its July release.
Despite the success, there are no official plans for a sequel. Gosling, however, is open to reprising his role, even suggesting a “Husky Ken.” Margot Robbie, who co-produced and starred as Barbie, isn’t as certain about a sequel. While she didn’t rule it out entirely, she expressed pride in the original movie and hesitated about the need for another iteration in a world filled with sequels, prequels, and remakes.
